TRAINING

This is what I was told when I was first accepted onto the path of becoming an Instructor over 32 years ago now- you had to earn the right to try out to be an Assistant Instructor and be accepted which took generally 6-12 months, culminating in a test which included fitness, technique, video (teaching skills) and written essays on the art you would potentially be accepted into Asst. Instructor Rank in, Shr Shyung…the Asst. Instructor would act as a model for students and assist the Sifu in the classes as needed.

My teacher sat me down and explained it to me this way: you train when you feel good, you train when you don’t feel good; you train when you are healthy, you train when you are not healthy. You train when the weather is nice, you train when the weather sucks ( my words lol), you train in the morning, day and middle of the night. You train when motivated, you train when unmotivated. You train if you are in the hospital, you train on vacation, you train, train, train and NEVER stop training.

This advice has served me through thick and thin, good and bad. When I was in the hospital on oxygen and told I had 5 years to live- I trained! Now I am healthy! God bless my teacher for being so tough.

Train and live your art, be humble, we are all students in TRAINING. Then when you master this, this is what you share, the joy of training:

KUNG FU!
