MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED:
One of my proudest moments as an instructor came when one of my child kung fu students noticed that I kep't a copy of Dr. King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech on the coffee table in the lobby of my school- he asked me, "Sifu Mike, why is this here?"
His father was born in India into the "Untouchable" caste- the lowest of the low, they are not allowed to even have a job! But in modern times they can join the military, which he did and he saved every penny and made his way to the USA. He was a brilliant man and built a great business and married an upper caste Hindu American lady- impossible in India but very possible here.
I live in a very multi-cultural area and have and have had students of every race, creed and color- including the former "Grand Dragon" of the New England KKK! No kiddin, he was reformed but I watched him like a hawk- to his credit we never had a problem.
So I let this fine young man-Srinath- know why I kep't that speech there- we are all equal in the arts and in life, even if some have forgotten it. This is our Dream and one of the great lesson of the arts- we are all students of the Way, traveling the Path each in our own way.
This brilliant young boy then sat and read the entire "I Have a Dream" speech.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
