No Reiki Body Snatchers!
So, I notice there is great confusion out there regarding the compassionate healing art of reiki- Usui Reiki Ryoho or also well known as Usui Shiki Ryoho...this includes especially practitioners of other related arts, such as various qigong, meditation, and/ or yogic/ pranic healing methods...it is indeed a fairly unique art and method, due to the genius, wisdom, compassion and attainments of the Founder, O-Sensei Mikao Usui.
First of all, the name: Usui Reiki Ryoho simply means, "Usui's Reiki Healing Method," Usui Shiki Ryoho means, "Usui's Natural Healing Method," and was coined by his disciple Shihan Hayashi to distinguish his art from his teachers...it was Usui Shiki Ryoho which Hayashi's disciple Rev. Takata brought to the world.
As for reiki, in English this is usually translated as Universal Life Force- as in the life force of the Universe, the original pure energy which all else comes from and depends upon...think of the Sun as the source of the reiki and the light, heat and other energies which come from the sun as the reiki. The compassionate healing art of reiki is not as exotic as it may sound, everything is energy and depends on energetic processes- without the Sun's light and energy for instance, life on earth would end and not be possible...when we eat food, it is energetic processes which enable us to benefit from the nutrients and energy contained in the food...reiki is just the purest, most wonderful food there is, direct from the Universe/ Nature- and no one is allergic!
Now, in Chinese reiki is "ling qi," or the purest, highest spiritual energy available in the Universe and for all life...Usui Reiki Ryoho in Chinese would thus be something like, "Usui's Ling Qi Healing Method," Usui Ling Qi Gong Fa...
What makes it unique is that all people regardless of previous experience- or lack of experience- can easily learn- you don't need to be a Monk, Kung Fu Master, Shaman, or the like...this was the gift the Universe gave O-Sensei Usui and which he shared with the world- to our great benefit, as the healing gifts of reiki are so in need now in our unbalanced, sick world and culture.
Don't let a bad reiki teacher or practitioner put you off- there are bad taiji teachers, yet taiji is still a great art! There are poor pizza chefs, but still- pizza is the ultimate food!
