REV. HAWAYO TAKATA, REIKI PIONEER AND THE SECOND WORLD REIKI TEACHER.

Rev. Hawayo Takata was the person responsible for preserving the art of Usui Reiki Ryoho (Usui Shiki Ryoho) and who introduced the art to the world. She learned in Japan directly from Shihan Chujiro Hayashi, one of Reiki Founder Mikao Usui’s top disciples, who later traveled to Hawaii to assist her in getting established in her Reiki Practice there. Due to her devotion and sincerity she was also chosen to be his successor. Later she began training Reiki Teachers on the mainland USA and in Canada. Her teachers then brought the art to the entire world. She was the last true “Reiki World Teacher” in a direct line from Founder Usui, as after her passing (1980) many, many Reiki Teachers- over time- have taken her original teachings as well as those of various other notable Western and Japanese Reiki Teachers and others and have developed their own systems, each traced to the Founder. For her loving devotion to her art, which literally saved her life, and her devotion to her teachers and her great efforts to preserve and pass on the art of reiki in as pure a fashion as she could in a completely new culture in a very difficult time (prior, during and after WW2 which was a very difficult time for Japanese Americans who for decades were highly suspect, sadly, due to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor) we consider her to be the REIKI MOTHER of us all. She deserves our utmost respect and gratitude. We bow low to the great and compassionate, so wise and courageous Rev. Takata- domo arigatou gozaimasu, mahalo nui loa- thank you Rev. Takata you have brought the Reiki Light to us all and accomplished your Mission. Well done.

Rev. Hawayo Takata, this is a photo she gave to each of her 22 Reiki Teachers.

A young Rev. Takata, fully recovered from her life threatening illnesses, with her teacher Shihan Chujiro Hayashi.

Rev. Takata giving one of the first public demonstrations of the healing art of reiki outside of Japan, in Hawaii in 1937. Hawaii was a seminal and vital hub for the integration of many Asian peoples and their cultures and arts to the United States and Western world in general. An amazing place, the Land of Aloha.

This building in Hilo, Hawaii served as a location for Rev. Takata to hold Reiki Clinics and teach at for years. Notice the structure resembles the sacred Japanese Torii, or Gateway to the Sacred World. Later Sifu Mike’s late friend Don Beckett lived here (it was a boarding house at that time) and wrote his wonderful reiki book here, only later learning of this buildings past history as a Reiki Sacred Site.

Another great photo showing Rev. Takata’s deep wisdom and compassion and wonderful Reiki Aloha Spirit, mahalo nui loa great teacher.
