Reiki Power Up

A key aspect of Reiki Healing which will not only further empower our work with others as Reiki Practitioners/ Teachers, but also aids us on our own personal healing journey, is something known as, “cleansing and preparing the channel.” Hmm, but what is this “channel” we are “cleansing and preparing?” Yes, you got it, that would be us! Each one of us as Reiki Practitioners/Teachers is what can poetically be described as the “divinely/higher powered hand of the universal,” and the “living flute” through which the beautiful “heavenly music of reiki” flows through.

As such, practices we may employ which will cleanse us internally in spirit, mind, energy, and body will serve to further empower us as Reiki Practitioners/Teachers. The more we are cleansed internally and in our consciousness, the more reiki will flow through us, thus we will be more able to help ourselves and others. This also can serve to help us develop our more subtle reiki skills, such as sensing/scanning/byosen reikan-ho, as well as rei-ji and more.

Now, “cleansing and preparing the channel” ideally should be employed daily as part of our Reiki Self Healing Wellness Program and practice. And, it may also be employed for extra amounts of time before we give reiki healing sessions and teach reiki classes. No worries, this need not be for hours and hours a day, as obviously many of us have busy lifestyles. We don’t want to make this another chore. Rather, the key is regular, daily practice. “A little bit of reiki everyday is much better than hours of reiki once per week” being a a good recommendation. Think of reiki as “spiritual/energetic food,” and it is oh so yummy!

** So here are some ideas on methods of “preparing and cleansing” our reiki channel. For much more see my book “The Compassionate Touch of Reiki- Healing Concepts, Elements, Methods” from Lotus Press, found on Amazon and many other fine booksellers (click for the link).

  • O-Sensei Mikao Usui, our Founder, recommended sitting and chanting the GoKai, or Reiki Principles, “out loud and in one’s heart” twice daily, morning and evening. After 30 years of reiki experience now I can truly say what a simple but powerful practice this is, especially when we make a commitment to live these sublime principles and ideals and “walk our reiki talk.” This practice is deeply healing, cleansing and empowering.

  • Another wonderful daily practice for “cleansing and preparing” our reiki channels is to practice some form of reiki qigong/energywork/breathwork. There are many traditional methods, such as Gassho Meditation and Gassho Hand Breathing (gassho kokyu-ho), and others. Like chanting the GoKai daily, this can also be performed before sharing a reiki healing session or teaching a reiki class, in order to cleanse, prepare, and empower oneself.

  • And of course another simple but wonderful method of preparing and cleansing our reiki channel is to give ourselves reiki sessions daily and receive reiki healing from others when possible. As we know, the divine/universal reiki healing force is completely pure of negativity and always acts to cleanse us in spirit, mind, body, energy.

  • There are other methods we may employ as well, including spending time in nature, meditation, and eating a clean, pure diet as much as possible and drinking lots of fresh, clean water. Rev. Hawayo Takata (and many others now) even have come up with “reiki recipes/diets” which have proven to be helpful in aiding the reiki healing and cleansing process.

  • OK, enjoy and may all reiki blessings be.
